EXCITING INSTAGRAM UPDATES COMING IN 2018

1: First Look at the New Instagram Explore Page

Since it first launched in June 2015, has undergone some pretty major changes. There’s the “Picked for You” channels that were added in 2016 — and ability to search for locations and hashtags that rolled out just last year.
But the biggest update to the Instagram Explore page was announced at F8, giving you a first look at the totally redesigned Instagram Explore page that’s coming soon.

2: Group Video Chat is Coming to Instagram

As Zuckerberg noted in his F8 keynote, he’s discovered that a lot of people use live video just to hang out when they can’t physically be together. “It’s amazing how many of these social tools are about getting as close to feeling like we’re there with someone,” he said.
To make this even easier, Zuckerberg announced that Instagram is launching its very own Video Chat, giving users the ability to talk privately with one or more people over a viedo call

3: Create Your Own Instagram Stories Face Filters with the AR Camera Effects

A major theme of F8 2018 was the focus on augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), which sounds like a far-off, futuristic technology. But did you know that you likely interact with augmented reality every day?
Instagram’s cute face filters are actually a great example of how augmented reality can fit into our lives and create fun, magical experiences.
And soon, people and brands will be able to make and share their own filters for Instagram Stories.

4: Instagram is Now Filtering Out Bullying Comments with It’s Latest Update

In September 2016, Instagram first announced the ability to filter comments based on keywords. And while the update was certainly a step forward in eliminating harassment from the platform,Instagram just announced that they’re taking their comment filtering technology a step further.
According to Instagram, the new anti-bullying feature uses machine learning to identify language that’s intended to harass or upset people. When this type of language is identified, the offensive comment will automatically be removed
.It’s difficult to say how broad Instagram’s interpretation of offensive language will be, but according to the announcement, the feature is aimed at “comments containing attacks on a person’s appearance or character, as well as threats to a person’s well-being or health.”
The future is automatically enabled for every user, so if you want to see unfiltered comments you will have to disable the feature in the Comment Controls centre in the Instagram app

5: Share Your Favorite Spotify Songs to Instagram with New Sharing Tools for Stories

A major Instagram Stories trend lately has been to post screenshots of songs you’re listening to or loving to your story, but it doesn’t make for the best experience, mainly because you can’t actually listen to the song. Now, when you’re listening to a song,  playlist, or album you love in Spotify and want to share it to your Instagram Stories, all you have to do is tap the new “share” button in the Spotify app!
The song appears as a sticker in your stories, and you can continue to edit your story like normal. The sticker is a deep link to the Spotify app, allowing you to seamlessly start listening to a new song from Instagram Stories

THE LATEST RELEASED FEATURES IN THE    OFFICIAL VERSION OF WHATSAPP

MORE TIME TO DELETE SEND MESSAGES

This is the small innovation implemented in the latest update of the app. Now you have more time to be able to delete all the messages send in chat. If you had 24 hours until now to be able to revoke a message, you now have more time :1 day ,8 minutes and 16 secound
This is the time you have available to request the cancellation of the sent message but be careful, to see any evidence disappear , even the recipient must receive the request within the new time limit. Otherwise (e.g.,your friend has their smartphone turned off for two days) the message will not be deleted and your sins will remain in the chat.

As mentioned above , this is not a big change and i doubt it will make a differnce in the way most of you use the app... or am i wrong...

what's coming to whatsapp in the future

Whatsapp has added a night mode for the camera within the ios app, so it's expected that this feature will arrive on its android counterpart soon. To help users shoot better photos in the dark, the option to turn on night mode appears when a low light environment is detected.

The night mode icon appears in the top right corner as a white moon, and after you tap to activate it, it turn yellow. This update is a welcome addition to Whatsapp's comparitively simple in app camera

FACEBOOK HOPES TO LAUNCH AN INTERNET                  SATELLITE IN EARLY IN 2019
(ATHENA  WOULD PROVIDE PROVIDE BROADBAND TO UNDERSERVED AREAS)

Facebook has cooperated on internet satellite initiatives (with less-than-ideal results), but there's been precious little word of plans to make its own satellite beyond high-level promises. Now, however, there's something tangible. Both publicly disclosed FCC emails and a direct confirmation to Wired have revealed that Facebook aims to launch an internally developed satellite, Athena, sometime in early 2019. A spokesperson didn't share details, but the shell organization Facebook used to keep filings hidden (PointView Tech LLC) talked about offering broadband to "unserved and underserved" areas with a low Earth orbit satellite on a "limited duration" mission.

This is likely just an experiment rather than a full-fledged deployment. Low Earth orbit satellite internet would require a large cloud of satellites to provide significant coverage, similar to SpaceX's planned Starlink network. However, it shows that the company isn't done building its own high-altitude hardware now that it has stopped work on its internet drone.

Whatever Athena shapes up to be, Facebook's motives likely remain the same. As with Alphabet's Loon internet balloons, there's a strong commercial incentive to connect underserved regions. Even if Facebook doesn't charge a thing for access, it could benefit by adding millions of new users who'd view ads and use services (including through Instagram and WhatsApp). It would also look good to investors, as Facebook would keep its audience growing at a time when there's seemingly no more room to grow.
